Baker’s MMA Adaptive Kickboxing As a student at Baker’s MMA & Fitness LLC, you’ll enjoy a family atmosphere where everyone is pushing each other to get better through fitness and discipline! This class varies in activities. Kickboxing is an important way to use hand eye coordination. Balance and agility exercises will be included. Some days participants will plays games like dodgeball, which is a great workout and helps improve throwing at a target. Adaptive Laser Tag Join us for an adult socialization night with laser tag and pizza. Participants ages 16 and up will have the opportunity for social participation through quality time with their current and new friends. This activity promotes gross motor, fine motor, eye-hand coordination, social interactions with others and increased self-confidence and self-esteem. Participants will also have an opportunity to demonstrate their money handling skills, if they wish to play additional arcade games. Adaptive Family Winter Party The Winter Party will consist of music, dancing, choir performances, gifts for the athletes, special guest appearances, carnival games and refreshments. Bring your lunch and join the fun! Registration is FREE but required in advance to attend the event. In conjunction with the City of Surprise, Dysart School District’s Special Olympic athletes and teachers will also be donating their time by making ornaments and decorations in school to help decorate the Holiday Trees. Intro to Cooking Cooking is an essential life skill that can be introduced at any stage in life. It’s time to learn the basics of cooking and how to survive in the kitchen. This class teaches how to gather and measure ingredients and the basics of creating simple dishes at home. From breakfast meals to no bake treats, this class is fun and delicious. Preparing, serving, and cleanup will be covered as well. BUDDY SPORTS Adaptive Pickleball League Adaptive Pickleball enhances the lives of people with physical and cognitive disabilities through playing the fun, social and com- petitive sport of Pickleball. Athletes of different abilities and life challenges will learn how to play pickleball to improve their physical fitness, make new friends and experience the thrills of competition. Generally, this sport is a low impact form of exercise. You will need to move around some to hit the pickleball. Buddy Soccer Buddy Soccer allows athletes from the age of 4 years and older who have developmental and/or physical disabilities the opportunity to learn and play the game of soccer. Activities include kicking, trapping, goaltending, and modified games. An oversized soccer ball may be used and competition is not emphasized. In Buddy Soccer we offer a buddy to help assist athletes, as needed, throughout the practice, SPECIAL OLYMPICS Special Olympics Basketball The Special Olympics Basketball League was created for athletes with intellectual disabilities who have the desire to participate in the game of basketball. Guidelines are based on rules set forth by Special Olympics. This is a competitive league and transportation to the Special Olympics Tournament is required. Practices will be held weekly. Korean Swordsmanship Haidong Gumdo is a dynamic sword based martial art that combines the rooted stances and fluidity of Chinese Martial Arts with the direct effectiveness of Japanese Martial Arts. Practitioner’s will learn how to safely handle a sword and will apply their knowledge through pattern practice, target cutting drills, and live combat. They learn fast reactions through games, learn to respect others and will become aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
