< Previous10 SURPRISEAZ.GOV » SUMMER 2021 SURPRISE SENIOR CENTER IS THE SURPRISE SENIOR CENTER IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF OUR COMMUNITY, providing a gathering place for those age 50+ and adults with disabilities. When COVID-19 closed the center’s doors last year, the city sprang into action to provide programs and services in socially distant ways – but we’ve all missed in-person connections. We couldn’t be more thrilled to now re-open our facility, through a phased approach. The Surprise Senior Center, 15832 N. Hollyhock St., has a wide variety of daily programs, life-long learning classes and multiple wellness programs available, including: The Senior Center meal program has also returned to in-person sit-down meals. Call 623.222.1500 two days in advance to reserve your spot. All Senior Center participants are required to fill out a new enrollment packet when returning to in-person participation. Packets are available at the Senior Center. For more information and for current front desk hours, visit surpriseaz.gov/seniorcenter or call 623.222.1500. The City of Surprise is proud to be the new home of the West Valley Veteran Success Center, giving veterans, service members and their families a new place to access re- sources and support. The center was originally launched by Rio Salado at Luke Air Force Base. Now, it’s ex- panded to our Surprise Resource Center at the AZ TechCelerator Campus, 12425 W. Bell Rd. The city offered this space as a way to demonstrate our continued commitment to the veteran community. Veterans are able to access an on-site, full-time AmeriCorps member specializing in veteran benefits navigation services and a Be Connect- ed Navigator, who can provide connections to resources across Arizona and help trouble- shoot barriers to accessing those resources. This fall, the second phase of this initiative will include the deploy- ment of an Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services Veteran Benefits Counselor, accredited by the U.S. De- partment of Veterans Affairs, to advo- cate for Arizona’s service members in re- gards to receiving federal and state veteran benefits. Current programs are offered in partner- ship with the Arizona Coalition for Military Families, Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, Northern Arizona University, Mari- copa Community Colleges Foundation and Rio Salado Community College. For more information on the West Valley Vet- eran Success Center, call 623.222.1658 or visit surpriseaz.gov/veterans. •Events are updated monthly and are subject to change.
