AIMS FOR THE FUTURE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP MEDICAL TRAVEL SIGNATURE RETAIL 2021 COMMUNITY PROFILES urprise celebrated its 60-year anniversary last year marking major milestones for the community and coming together to address unprecedented challenges. Surprise residents have welcomed the city’s newest retailer, Costco, with open arms and packed shopping carts. For several years, the warehouse store had topped the most-wanted list on the city’s annual resident retail survey. The opening of Costco has sparked additional Loop 303 commercial optimism with a major land acquisition by SimonCRE, proposing close to 1M square feet of retail, restaurant, and other amenities. The corridor also launched the city’s newest master planned community, Sterling Grove by Toll Brothers, representing a luxury community with premiere lifestyle amenities. Businesses and residents experienced a city coming together last year to meet the needs of small businesses. The city ”See Red Get Fed,” “Open for Business,” and ”Spread Kindness Instead” campaigns along with a first-ever local business relief grant, connected hundreds of businesses with customers while delivering resources to aid resiliency. Large businesses also delivered to the community: IRIS USA donated 30,000 masks to help the local effort to stay safe. Signature projects, Amazon last-mile delivery station and Fry’s Asante, are coming to the Southwest Railplex and to north Surprise. Finally, Surprise City Center is bursting with five new housing projects at various stages of development and The Quarter at Surprise proposes 78 acres of mixed-use commercial development for the city’s new downtown. The business success and community coordination have honored the spirit of the city’s founder, Flora Statler, as well as all of the great community champions and leaders who worked tirelessly to build the city’s legacy for the future.
